CV 67 John F. Kennedy, March 2007 : CV 67 John F. Kennedy, Mar 2007. In early March, the aircraft carrier "John F. Kennedy", known as "Big John", took a last trip to Boston before being decommissioned. The ship is one of the last non-nuclear carriers in the fleet, and was begun in 1964. It is over 1,000 feet long, and the flight deck is over 250 feet wide. It displaces 82,000 tons, and carries a ship's company of over 3,000, an air wing of almost 2,500, and up to 85 aircraft. Unfortunately, the line to get in was about 2.5 hours long on a cold morning, so it was a somewhat grueling experience. Security was pretty tight, with a heavily-armed guard and airport-style scanning.

Crew Scrimmage, October 2007 : Crew Scrimmage, October 2007. On the weekend before the Head of the Charles, some local high-school teams practiced over the course. Isabel joined the CRLS girls' crew team, and rowed in a novice Eight. CRLS is hosted by the Cambridge Boat Club, or CBC, which provides a marvelous out-look.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is the world's largest two-day rowing event, and it's quite a sight, with lots of boats on the river, and crowds of spectators lining the banks. Chantal and Isabel volunteered, selling programs and serving the Pasta Dinners.

On the weekend after the Head of the Charles, the Massachusetts Public Schools Rowing Association (MPSRA) held its fall championship at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. This was Isabel's first real race, and her girls novice four won a bronze medal, third in the state!
